Golf Course Cart Path

This country club wanted to try something new and innovative for a pathway that could accommodate pedestrians and golf carts alike. A golf course needs a lot of pathways. But it just isn't practical to use traditional driving surface materials everywhere a path is needed. Sometimes gravel is used in such cases but the compromise is that gravel is strewn about with use and frequent replenishment is needed.

Other desired attributes for an alternative solution include a material and method that:
  • complements the natural beauty of the course landscape design, but does not interfere with it
  • can be used where traditional materials would be prohibited (e.g. near designated wetlands)
  • is easily repairable (a quick DirtGlue slurry mix in a pail makes for repairs with the greatest of ease for the course maintenance grounds crews)
  • provides a cost savings
  • complements other design elements

Golf course pathways developed with DirtGlue Polymer Emulsion are the ideal solution. However, we want to ensure success of every application. Mix-in and compacted applications are fraught with potential pitfalls. DirtGlue polymer mixed into soil and compacted yields an extremely strong surface and subsurface. The main pitfall here is to think that it is really that simple. Every mix-in application must be accomplished using road-building techniques and considerations:

  1. Drainage: The application will only perform well if the foundation is VERY WELL DRAINED
  2. Base and Subgrade: Both the base and subgrade MUST BE VERY WELL STABILIZED. This necessitates, geotextile / geogrid in areas of less than perfectly solid base soil.
  3. Soil: The next important consideration is aggregate size/type/hardness/gradation.
  4. Geometry: The shape, slope, pitch, crown, etc. to ensure water moves off of and away from the stabilized surface.

If each of these criteria are met, the result would most likely be an extraordinary new design element in the architectural design of your golf course.
